This site is written primarily in Dutch. The menus and categories are in Dutch as well. My intention is to translate some of what I write into English, but this is an ongoing process and I do not guarantee that all texts will be available in translation.

To understand the main categories of this site, the following brief explanation of the Dutch categories may be helpful:
Accountancy
This category contains everything I write about public accounting and auditing, compliance, and related subjects. Anything I write about legal issues is written with Dutch jurisdiction in mind.
De Narratieve Aap
My way of understanding the world is through the lens of the narrative animal. Humans are special in being narrative beings, yet in every other respect we are just another species. To capture that tension, I refer to us as the Narrative Ape.
We are apes that tell stories. Through stories we share and sustain what we take to be true. This connects to very old biblical themes, but also to thoroughly modern phenomena such as “fake news”. My deepest conviction is that truth, for humans, is always mediated through shared narratives.
I use my articles primarily as a way to order my thoughts and to think. I do not claim superior insight or authority. I do, however, consciously work within two frameworks that serve as boundaries to my thinking: modern science, and the Catholic faith. Fides et ratio.
Computers enzo
I have been fascinated by computers ever since I first sat behind a TRS-80 in England at the age of eleven. Everything I write that has a meaningful relation to computers can be found in this category.
Vanalles
Vanalles is a Dutch word that roughly means “a bit of everything”. Texts that do not naturally fit into any of the other categories end up here.
